echodroides is a collaboration between chicago natives frank de la mora & miguel martin. their sound can be described as a trip through space with analog synthesizers and drum machines. they came together in 2011 first working on remixes then shortly after decided to work on original material. their music has been featured in tv shows, movies, promotional videos from peugeot, fashion labels and the ubisoft video game, watch dogs. for this special and limited release they re-created a track from 80s us studio project, experimental products, - paying tribute to -glowing in the dark- original and an instrumental. (words from the artists) experimental products has always been a massive influence on us from the very 1st time we heard them back in the 80s. glowing in the dark, in particular changed everything for us. mark wilde and michael gross were way ahead of their time. we wanted to pay tribute to them by re-creating this song from scratch.

the debut ep from dj force & the evolution is a classic. not only was this ep the starting point to a run of huge releases by the group, including perfect dreams and high on life, it was also the beginning for darren styles as part of the evolution, and dj force, both of whom teamed up to bring the rave world numerous classics as years went by. but this ep was the beginning, and has long deserved a repress. the original pressing is changing hands for ridiculous amounts second hand, and this is the same three tracks, lovingly remastered and presented in their original format!

this is the first brand new hyper-on experience ep to be released in decades, and it is simply amazing. the legendary artist behind massive underground anthems such as lord of the null lines and monarch of the glen return with a superb 3 track ep and its like they have never been away. all three tracks retain that unique blend of quirky humor and style with serious production and technical skill. lift me up is a full on piano and live vocal work out, while cannon rush stands out as the mosthyper-on-ish of the tracks? with its choir intro and cleverly manipulated vocals, is is both original and authentic. meanwhile, vibrations rounds out the ep and stpes a little further back in time, being slightly slower and deeper. this whole ep is a classic waiting to happen.

jickow releases his lead and debut single -pig tails- on the well known resopal label. the belgium based producer has been at the heart of the minimal techno movement and is also a revered producer and performer who creates amazing sounds. the original is a funky athmospheric track with wriggling synths executed in jickows darker, more stripped back and abstract edges of the dancefloor. add into the package are two outstanding remixes by matt sassari and timid boy. all in all an essential release for 2018.

26 minutes of divine techno. midnight cults, the eagerly awaited sequel to last years cyanure dance features two epic new tracks from i hate models with vocal contributions from zanias and a sleek wave remix from dj varsovie. on the solar side the odyssey begins. it will last forever discharges a barrage of devastating, tensile beats over a swell of ethereal synths recalling the sirens - muses of the underworld, luring sailors to their deaths in a flurry of aggravated arpeggios. on the lunar side walpurgis night opens with a pristine, glacial sonic field, punctuated by the ricochet of beaten metal and drenched in the supernal, disembodied voice of zanias, echoing across vast fissures, pummelling through deep ravines and back out into space. dj varsovie completes the journey with his sensual take on walpurgis night, tempering the original with an insistent pitch black funk and somnambulant new wave vocals.

glasgow s wheelman provides the tenth iteration of dba s dubs series, following a series of high profile releases on huntleys & palmers, studio barnhus, and his own stereotone label. signal is wheelman s most ambitious effort to date, its searing amen stabs and deep sub bass guaranteed to wreck any club, while floating pads and crystalline strings add a bittersweet moment of rave nostalgia to the breakdown. on the flip, in line with the dba dubs concept of pairing a house track from an up and coming uk producer with a remix by an established techno name from across the pond, detroit in effect provide a cold, bleep-drenched take which raises the tempo of wheelman s original to an almost breakneck speed. d.i.e, also known as cybonix, were prolific throughout the late 90s and early 00s on their own m.a.p. label and more recently on rotterdam s clone. to coincide with the release of the tenth edition in the dba dubs series the label are also making all ten original tracks available as a digital package, while all ten of the remixes from the series get their own bundle, with wheelman and basic soul unit providing a megamix of each edition respectively.

after being one of the many standouts on the we are opilec! vol. iii compilation back in 2016, i-robots glamouflage is now getting a full vinyl release with artwork by tomozo kevorkian, who was designer for nyc s body & soul, and remixes by a standout team of producers from japan to switzerland to south africa and the usa. opening up the ep is a fantastic new take ii version from label boss i-robots, who added exclusive chinese vocal samples recorded on the streets of huang jiang city many years ago. the track is inspired by ennio morricone and supermax and is a loose and infectious groove with brilliant drums and percussion and an elastic bassline that really gets you moving. it s a subtle update to the originalalso included here as a bonus cutwhich itself is a steamy and tropical sounding groove. swiss electronic pioneer schaltkreis wassermann then features on a version of the original that reaches for the cosmos with its rugged bass riffs, tumbling toms and busy, ever evolving groove. it has a big breakdown with exotic synths wandering through the night and oodles of effects and big guitar licks. the first of the remixes comes from kuniyuki takahashi who has been a big supporter of i-robots since 2000. he is a sound designer from japan who had a compilation of his works put out by music from memory back in february. his version is laden with cosmic synths and chants, grunting and organic drums and is sure to be massive this summer thanks to its open air vibes. detroit s underrated but vital gary martin is the boss of the teknotika label and his version featuring colten decker playing an unusual sax line shows another side to the motor city. it s a curious and mysterious tune that makes for an unsettling atmosphere that keeps you locked throughout as it snakes along.

echocords echo echo sub-label continues with its third releases this august, courtesy of german producer and credo founder alex bau with his zenstory ep. germanys alex bau has been a prominent name on the underground dj circuit on his home turf, and further afield, for three decaces as well as racking up an impressive back catalogue as a recording artists for labels like cocoon, clr, sleaze and of course his very own credo label which has been a platform predominantly for his own material whilst welcoming the likes of kyle geiger, takkyu ishino and electric rescue onto the imprint also. here though we see bau joining the roster of echocords fledgling sub-label echo echo with a new four-track ep and taking the lead on the package is clouds with pulsating low-end tones, hissing analogue noise and dusty drums samples all flowing in unison with ethereal chords and sweeping pads. contour follows, tipping the focus over to bubbling delayed stab hits, fluttering sub bass and evolving white noise bursts throughout. the prelude of zenstory opens the flip side and as the name would suggest its a cinematic build up to the title-track featuring tension-building, expansive atmospherics ahead of the original mix which features a thumping muted kick, stuttering atmospheric echoes and spoken word vocal tucked into the depths of the record.

estonian archival label frotees 6th release suvi ei jaa by heidy tamme is available again as 7inch single with new b-side for the balearic heads. while suvi ei jaa is a cover version of roberta flacks song what a woman really means, it was given new estonian lyrics which eloquently describe the summer season and its brevity (title translates as summer doesnt stay). its sung by popular estonian singer heidy tamme, recorded in 1982, and arranged by tiit paulus, one of the best estonian jazz guitarists. after original release of 7 in 2015, frotee has discovered another version of the title track. tiit paulus had played guitar over instrumental version of suvi ei jaa and this version is now essential for our balearic summers.

for those that knoe delves deeper into the archives once more to repackage a bundle of hard to find cuts on vinyl that have been staple supplies in ben s record bag over the years. the early to mid 2000s was a period of minimal techno overload, finding quality house music then was a challenge compared to today. rather than follow the herd, some european producers took influence from the original minimal pioneers and fused those approaches with house music themes in order to push a unique sound of the era. they turned minimal on its head and gave took it in a different direction. canson from switzerland released a handful of records between 2002 and 2005 that were a prime example of this aesthetic. stripped back beats with syncopated melodies - perfect cuts for those early sets or hazy morning sessions. the three tracks featured on this compilation were originally released on two solo eps for canson: itsudemo and holiday plug in, both of which have claimed squatter s rights in my record bag for almost 15 years. i don t think i ve played one early slot or house set without one of them. this record is quite a personal one for me as it s a representation of my deeper sound as a dj. now the original records are a little hard to find so im so glad to share my choice picks of cansons material on a my label.

david mayers career and background is marked by a desire to keep moving and experiencing new perspectives. having finally settled in berlin, the german dj and producer has built up an enviously diverse back catalogue on labels such as connected frontline, objektivity, gruuv, audiomatique and keinemusik. with his first release on acid pauli and nico stojans ouie label, mayer brings his trademark groove to the fore once more. the call is a mid tempo chugger built around a kick, clap and 808 blip, before a more organic groove develops. the slowed down chants and wigged out synth line take the vibe into afro cosmic territory, without losing the original energy. sooner is a little more urgent - a crisp, forward leaning rhythm and a deep, subby bass lead the way, before another frazzled synthesiser takes us on a melodic walkabout. black queen is another example of mayers slick drum programming, keeping things zesty on the dance floor but with acres of space to lose yourself in.

milanese pair francesco mingrino and marcello carozzi have already asserted themselves in the field of adventurous disco experimentation via two sterling outings on the highly rated bordello a parigi, and now they prove their calibre once again with an ep on the ever-vital tusk wax. there s a delicate tone to younger than me on this record, from the heartstring tugging melodics of easy rolling acid throbber -mubai garden tea- to the subtle synth pop touches of -arizona dream.- -manchester s teen- is a tougher affair with the kind of slow filter sweeping lead hook that rave dreams are made of, while -near to bali- finishes the ep on an ominous beatless note. zombies in miami turn in a remix of -mubai garden tea- that maintains the romantic mood of the original while injecting a little more dancefloor heat into its bones.

berlin based electronic mainstay marquis hawkes has announced details of his second lp the marquis of hawkes, due out 24th august 2018 on fabrics in-house label houndstooth (home to call super, aïsha devi, special request and more). ahead of this, hawkes will also release a new single featuring acclaimed uk soul singer jamie lidell. the single, entitled we should be free, features, alongside the low slung but melancholic original version, three reinterpretations of the song, remixed by hawkes himself. both this, and the essential previous single, dont u, which featured the vocal talents of ursula rucker, will appear on the forthcoming album.
